Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
-
We can begin with whatever you have: a reference garment, rough sketch, inspiration images, measurements, or simply a clear idea of what you want to create.
If available, it is also helpful to share your target customer, intended use of the garment, preferred fabrics, desired size range, target retail price, and anticipated production quantity. If you are still working through those decisions, that is completely fine. We can help you identify the information needed for the next stage.
-
No. Development can be completed in phases, so you can begin with the essentials and add services as your project progresses.
Most projects start with a base-size pattern and foundational technical documentation. From there, you may add sampling, fittings, grading, sourcing support, additional tech-pack development, production preparation, and manufacturer support as needed.
-
If you already have a tech pack, we are happy to review it before development begins. We will let you know whether it contains the information needed for accurate pattern making and sampling.
Our standard process includes creating or refining internal technical documentation and an approved technical drawing before patternmaking begins. This helps ensure we are aligned on the garment’s intended construction, proportions, materials, and design details.
Pattern-only projects may be possible for certain designs. Please contact us with your project details, and we will recommend the most appropriate starting point.
-
Yes. We are happy to review and sign a reasonable mutual or one-way confidentiality agreement before discussing confidential project details.
For efficiency, please send your NDA before your consultation or before sharing proprietary sketches, specifications, supplier information, or other confidential materials.
-
We use professional apparel-development software, including Optitex, Lectra, CLO 3D, and Adobe Illustrator, depending on the needs of the project.
These tools support accurate patternmaking, grading, technical drawing, digital visualization, and manufacturer-ready file preparation.
-
Standard pattern delivery includes a DXF file and a PDF file. DXF is a widely used exchange format that many pattern systems and manufacturers can import.
When requested before final delivery, we can often provide additional formats based on your manufacturer’s requirements, including:
.mdl for Lectra
.zip for Gerber-compatible files
.PDS for Optitex
.zprj for CLO 3D
HPG, HPGL, or PLT (read plotter files)
.ai for Adobe Illustrator
Please confirm your manufacturer’s preferred file format before final delivery. Compatibility can vary by factory, software version, and production workflow.
-
Yes. We can provide printed patterns on standard paper or oak tag, a heavier and more durable manila pattern paper.
We also offer tiled PDF patterns for home printing on US Letter or Legal paper. Tiled files include match points and alignment markings, so the pages can be assembled accurately.
-
Yes. Depending on your needs, we can provide trusted sourcing resources for you to explore independently or help identify production-appropriate fabric and trim options.
For hands-on sourcing support, we can collect available options and arrange physical swatches for review. Material availability, minimums, lead times, and final purchasing are confirmed separately with the applicable supplier.
